Would you swap Payet for any other Premier League player?
I wouldn't.

The geezer is a Rolls Royce, Bentley, and a Lear Jet rolled up into one phenomenal bundle. The way he glides across the pitch is majestic. Head always up, ball glued to his foot, he seems to put opposition players in a trance before either leaving them for dead, laying off an killer pass, or unleashing a devastating shot.

Look at that cross for Valencia last night. Most players would have just fired it into a dangerous area, he picked out a pinpoint pass through a crowd.

I think he's the best player in the league this year, and wouldn't swap him for anyone.

What about you?

Although be fair to France they won a few tournaments with their methods

I'm not surprised he's not in the France squad. Ginola and Cantona got nowhere near the caps they should have - all because of what I assume we're stuffy arrogant men running the team.

A bit like Hoddle with Le Tissier.

No

Dont want to tempt fate but he looks like a big fish/small pond player - loves being adored

He is on the contract of his life, will have all sorts of escalators and lives in the centre of the Empire - London

Whats not to like? He will lift the cup when we beat Totts in the final and we can run close to the CL - why leave?

He seems to be the real deal, doesn't he. A genuinely two footed playmaker who can make defence spliiting passes, dribble past opponents, shoot powerfully and accurately with both feet, plus he's a team player who works pretty hard.

One problem though, which we've already seen to our cost when we play teams more cynical than Bournemouth (i.e. Everton), he will be targeted by some cloggers. So we may need to find a way to protect him to a degree. Pity we haven't got a Bonzo playing these days.

And talking of Everton, I wonder how many more points we'd have if it hadn't been for that dirty ginger twat.

Looking back at his career you just wonder why he hasn't come to prominance sooner. Was at a couple of smaller French clubs before Marseille. But when you see the ability he has it seems a crying shame that he's played a lot of his career on a relatively lower level of football.

Can't believe you just used payet and Mahrez in the same sentence, I would hesitate to swap payet for messi or ronaldo, before you all start obviously they are great players and have achieved more than payet, but right now what he is doing for us, there is a risk that you lose him and no player could replicate it. I just wish he was younger

Full Claret

"I really like him but just think some people are going overboard with hero worship"

I'm normally dont like the hype stuff either, but seriously, I havent seen anything like him in the Prem ever.

There have been more dynamic players (Henry, Ronaldo), more prolific goal scorers etc...

But I've never seen a player in the middle of the park that can dictate and can actually control a game like he does in this league.

He does what Pirlo, Zidanne, Socrates, Iniesta etc.. do. It's that player that everyone just gives the ball to because they know he's better than them and can do something.

He takes multiple players out with 1 move and just carries on like it's normal. (so normal that motd didnt even bother showing it at liverpool!).

And he scores goals as well!

The major difference between him and Carzola, Sanchez etc... is that they all tend to lose the ball and run into trouble. Payet doesnt. Ozil doesnt and neither does Mahrez.

If you take Sanchez's goals out of his game he isnt that great (which is probably why Barca didnt mind losing him). People like Ozil / Payet / Mahrez or more than just goals, thats what makes them special.

(I really hope he doesnt turn shit ... )

In that case it sounds like you think he's a lot better than just 'decent'.

Marsden, No I wouldn't sell him for any money as players like him are worth the entry fee. He has sublime skill but he isn't Lionel Messi or Ronaldo. He's not even in the French squad - that's something I do find unbelievable.

I really like him but just think some people are going overboard with hero worship. I'm not ready to give him West Ham hero status after a few games thats all.

He walks away from goal attempts like Eric Cantona on Coke

Payet has the Maradona type build, he's very strong on the ball but still quick enough over a few yards. Reminds me of Tevez, free kick last night was like Tevez vs Bolton?

Possible comparables in his role...that I've seen...

Woosnam...Byrne...Boyce...Peters...Devonshire...Brooking...Berkovic...DiCanio...Benayoun...

But on this season's displays he is better technically than most of these...

Time will tell if he delivers as much to the team...

I'm still not quite sure how we ended up signing him.

Was there really no one else in for him? Memory might be a bit hazy but I can't remember having to beat off any competition.

Hazzard is the best player in the league, but he's been utter shit this season. Toure and Aguero are pretty special. But no, I genuinely wouldn't swap him for anyone. I love his attitude, the way he plays the game... Everything. I'm too young to have watched Moore or Brooking, but he is the best player I've ever seen at Upton Park, including Di Canio and Devonshire.

Toure 3-4 years ago was an absolute monster and the heartbeat of their team.

He's just mailing it in now.

Re: Would you swap Payet for any other Premier League player?
Amazing player but I guess we'll see if he maintains that standard over the rest of the season and beyond - obviously hope he does.

I think it helps that, with a new manager with a different view on how football should be played, we're a bit of an unknown quantity in the league. We don't play like we used to so he may have a little more freedom. I guess the real acid test will be next season when we're a bit easier to figure out.
